Meet Gina Marie — The Story Behind Today It’s Green

I grew up with a father who taught me to recycle before it was even a thing. He showed us how to conserve water and respect what the earth gives us. You could say the seed was planted early — to be conscious of what we use and how we use it.

As I built a home and family, that awareness grew into something deeper. I watched out for toxic chemicals, started making my own cleaners and detergent, and eventually began noticing just how much plastic waste was everywhere. That’s when I started really looking for ways to reduce my dependency on plastic.

I didn’t get to this point all at once. Looking back, it happened one change at a time — using cloth diapers for my babies, switching to non-toxic cleaners, making my own soap, cutting out preservatives. Each small step added up.

And that’s what led me here — to the idea that if each of us can change just one thing, maybe we can make a difference together. That’s the heart behind Today It’s Green.

Today It’s Green grew out of the idea that real change doesn’t have to be complicated or extreme. It’s about being mindful of the choices we make every day — what we bring into our homes, what we throw away, and what we pass along to our kids.

My goal is to make sustainable living feel approachable, not all-or-nothing. Here, you’ll find practical swaps, simple DIY projects, and honest stories from my own trial-and-error journey. Some ideas save money, some save waste — all of them help us live a little lighter on the planet.

I believe small actions have a ripple effect. When one person makes a change, it inspires another — and that’s how movements start. Today It’s Green is about sharing those small, real-life changes so together we can create shared impact.

Today It’s Green is a space for doers, tinkerers, and anyone ready to make everyday living a little more thoughtful. You won’t find perfection here — just real projects, practical ideas, and small shifts that add up over time.

🧴 DIY + Apothecary — Simple, safe recipes for cleaning and self-care made from ingredients you can pronounce. From liquid soap to natural deodorant, these are the formulas that actually work.

🥕 Unboxed Kitchen — Recipes that cut out the boxed and bottled stuff. Think pantry mixes, sauces, and from-scratch staples that replace what you’d normally buy pre-made.

🌿 Garden Swaps — How to work with nature instead of against it. Composting, native plants, pollinator-friendly choices, and reusing what’s already around you.

💡 Change One Thing — Your starting point. Easy, realistic swaps that help reduce plastic, waste, and overwhelm.

Each section connects to the next — from what we grow, to what we make, to what we eat, and how we care for our homes. Everything ties back to one simple idea: when we each change one thing, we all make a difference.

If you’ve ever looked at all the waste, the plastic, or the “stuff” and wondered where to even start — you’re in the right place.

Today It’s Green isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. Every small change you make matters, and when those changes are shared, they inspire others to do the same.

I share new projects, DIY wins (and the occasional flop), and simple ideas to try in your own home through my monthly Change One Thing newsletter. It’s friendly, free, and filled with realistic ways to live a little lighter.

Let’s make one small change together. Then another.
